To reflect these needs, I have developed seven different themes that we will investigate, both to understand the content of a specific humanities discipline and to explore how different methods are employed. In this class we will examine the following seven themes by learning to apply humanities methodologies.
A note on content:
Most humanities textbooks sold in the US explore the humanities as a function of Ancient Greek through European Renaissance materials. Since we are Americans, I prefer to explore humanities as these relate to American history, culture and society. For this reason, the content of the humanities we will examine is Latin American, both because these materials are American (and so influence our culture significantly) and because we can learn about ourselves by contrasting our own history, culture and society with those nearest to us.
